FAQ

How soon can I get an appointment?

Depending on your needs and preferences, we aim to find a suitable appointment within 3 days; however, this may be difficult during peak periods. Please call us on 0433 187 956 to determine appointment availability.

Do I need a GP referral to make an appointment?

No. However, you are welcome to bring any medical records that will help us understand how medical conditions affect your mental health.

How much does a counselling session cost?

$120 per 50-minute session. Sessions can be extended if needed; the cost of extensions is $30 for 15 minutes or part thereof. Note that initial sessions are 75 minutes long and cost $150 for individuals and couples.  For more detail, click "Fees" on the top menu,

Are Medicare rebates available?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not provide counselling services rebates at this time.

How many sessions will I need for individual counselling?

Most clients attend between 4 and 16 sessions, depending on the complexity of the problem. In the case of trauma or mental disorders, therapy can take several months or years.

How many sessions will we need for relationship counselling?

As with individuals, it depends on the complexity of the problem and whether mental disorders are involved.

Will relationship/couples counselling help to stop family violence?

No. Relationship counselling will not be effective if there is violence or addiction to legal drugs, illegal drugs or alcohol. Dependency on alcohol or drugs and violent behaviour need to be treated individually before relationship counselling can be effective.

How often should I/we attend sessions?

Weekly sessions are recommended for individual counselling, as this helps us build momentum. After some progress, individuals may choose to attend fortnightly or monthly sessions. For couples, I recommend doing a joint session, then individual sessions with each partner, followed by another joint session, thus four sessions.  After that, I usually suggest that the couple attend fortnightly sessions.
